When an impoverished family moves from Nevada to Los Angeles, it becomes necessary for them to leave their sons dog behind, to be cared for by an untrustworthy neighbor. The dog is even more distraught than the boy, and he eventually breaks away from his new owner and sets off on an impressive trek across the deserts and wilderness that separate him from his old family.
